Whilst assembling the songs it began to remind us of our first murky recording, Droner, which was recorded partly at Rich Bitch studios in Birmingham, and released exactly twenty years ago. We even reached back into the past and used a blast-beat on this new one. All part of the (r)evolving sound of BRETWALDAS”.

Wartooth – “On the cover photo and concept of Summoning the Gatekeepers; whilst traversing the mycelial corridor in the otherworldly gloom of the Wychwood one morning, I had the feeling of being watched. I took a number of pictures, including a few back along the path to capture the dappled sunlight. Looking through them later I was shocked to see the advancing arboreal jotun. I couldn’t shake the thought that my activities had unwittingly summoned this brophytic apparition. Fitting, I think, for the music we had written for this album”.
